Favorite Song of the 00s: Burial - "Archangel"

Burial's sound is so distinctive and oft copied that one forgets sometimes how brilliant his early work truly is. On his second record, the masterful Untrue, single "Archangel" stands out more from an emotional standpoint than an aural one. The manipulated Ray J sample adds needed warmth and depth to what is generally a chilly atmosphere. Over a clopping 2-step beat, Burial seamlessly melds together ethereal synths, harsh bass, and the clipped sampled vocals that are twisted and turned into itself.
