Jam of the Day: Moby - "Rio (Duran Duran Cover)"
From the compilation Making Patterns Rhyme: a tribute to DURAN DURAN curated by MANIMAL for the benefit of AMNESTY, Moby tackles "Rio" and trades Simon Le Bon's husky croon and saxophones for a calmer approach. Building off haunting piano chords and an insistent bass drum, a woman's dusky voice takes the lead, pushing the track forward with billowing synths and echoes of rhythm guitar, before gathering steam into a heady, swirly vibe. While it in no way replaces the fun punch of the original, it is an interesting take on an 80s classic.
