Videos of the Week

Happy Friday everyone! Once again here is the roundup of the latest videos that make me pee in my pants a little.

Intense, rumbling dubstep from Digital Mystikz.

Needed some funk to help me through a bad day.

Amazing, haunting cover of the Peter Gabriel song "Mercy Street."

I wasn't sure where this video was going to go. I like that it went in a surprisingly upbeat and touching direction. Sometimes you just have to make do with your situation and make your own fun or beauty.

This week I pulled together my list of favorite CDs from the 1980s and Wolfgang Press' Birdwood Cage made the list. This (incomplete) video is from that release. I loved this band, and wished they had been more popular. Ironically, I think their progression to a more mainstream sound is what did them in. Where they were once distinctive, merely turned into something ordinary.

Australian band PVT, which performs in mode similar to that of Battles. Very intense and sampler heavy. They are not as odd-ball as Battles, but I still enjoy them. This video makes me a little motion sick though.

I just recently got into Menomena after my friend Matthew had been trying to get me to listen to them for years. For some weird reason, I had it in my head that they were a metal band. Of course, I couldn't have been more wrong. Very experimental and loopy. I really like their new album Mines.

Yeasayer tends to come up with the most bizarre videos for their songs. "Madder Red" is certainly no exception to that rule.
