Non Sequiturs

What a wonderful decision yesterday in California, where District Court Judge Walker overturned Prop. 8 stating that the ban on gay marriage is unconstitutional. It was a strong 134 page ruling that set a pretty strong factual record supporting his decision, making it an uphill climb for any appeal. Of course, it will likely make it to the Supreme Court, and they are not bound by the factual record, but it did make a very strong argument. Fingers crossed.

I found out the other day that a former friend was not a friend at all. He was someone I thought was a good guy with a string of bad luck; losing his job, his apartment, having to almost go on welfare to survive, fighting bone cancer. I even loaned him money so that he could pay his rent. Now I come to find that he is a pathological liar and drug addict, and most likely the money I loaned him went straight to his habit. I hate being cynical about people, but you never really can know someone else. Makes me not want to trust people.

I upgraded my car last weekend. I loved the car I had (Honda Civic coupe), but wished it had more options on it. Got a special offer from the dealer on a new car, with a hefty trade in on my old one, and basically my car payment remained unchanged. So I got a new Civic sedan which I really enjoy driving.
