Missy, my beloved cat of 16 years, passed away this weekend when we were still on vacation. Rest in peace my sweet baby.

I never thought losing a cat would be so difficult. Pets really are part of your family.

I hated that Andrew and I were away when it happened, but we are very thankful for Jimmy and Kurt who were with her when she passed and gave her as much love as we would have.

The hardest thing was going to the vet when we got back so we could see her. She looked so small. Was hard to see my baby like that.

I still come home and expect to see her.

I wish I could stop crying about her; I feel like an emotional mess.

Our other cat Escada still looks for her. She's very upset and won't leave our sides.

We got her ashes yesterday in a lovely little tin. They gave us a small envelope with a lock of her fur. I love that I will always have a part of her with me.

I have so many fond memories of her. Thinking about her always makes me smile.

Another Bear Week is down in the record books. Here are my musings and observations:

It is almost impossible to have a bad time in this magical town.

Although our house itself was great, with a wonderful backyard area, it was still a little too far into the East End for our tastes. We love the West End.

I would be fine only going to two Tea Dances at the Boatslip, the first and the last.

Again, we met some of the loveliest men this time. The douche bears were not as plentiful as last year.

It's also odd how many people I know that were there and never saw them.

And how many people were there that I didn't know were coming and had a chance encounter meeting.

After being in such a gay place for a week, it is huge culture shock coming back to the majority "straight" world.

The past couple of years I have preferred the Provincetown Inn pool, this year, however, I found myself enjoying the Boatslip pool more.

Devon's is a wonderful place to have an anniversary dinner. Definitely get the flourless chocolate torte with raspberry coulis.

I really enjoyed riding our bikes this year. Though trying to navigate Commercial Street during peak times was a nightmare.

The weather was lovely, except Thursday morning it was almost into the 50s. I am glad I brought a hoodie.

We try it every year, and just don't enjoy Horsemeat Disco. Not our thing.

The Bear Cruise on Monday afternoon is a blast, and DJ Steve Sherwood killed it. Also, the return to port party with DJ Doug Jackson was amazing. He was on fire.

We never made it to A-House this year. Went to Purgatory for Fag Bash, and had fun.

It's amazing how some people you meet there feel like long lost friends. The connections can be so sublime.

The Italian sandwich at The Canteen is probably one of the best sandwiches in town. Of course, overall, Relish is the best sandwich shop. Their desserts are phenomenal.

Drinks and food are still too expensive.

We had never taken the Boston Harbor Cruise line to Ptown. I think we may be sold. The ferries were much bigger.

The energy level on the last Saturday is supremely glum.

Coming home to several emergency projects, two 14+ hour days, and a horrible cold is not the way I wanted to reenter reality.

I have a love/hate relationship with applesauce.

Although I don't expect everyone I work with to get in as early as me, it can be annoying when I am waiting to get a new assignment and the person who assigns work doesn't get in until well after 9 AM.

I am just not a reggae fan.

A friend of mine called me "the biggest tart (he) knows." I will take that as a compliment.

People (including myself) can complain about the dumbest things.

Really, he's not.

If you make it seem like you don't want to hang out with me, I am not going to hang out with you.

When you have a massive, widescreen computer monitor at work, having to actually use the laptop screen is like a Lilliputian nightmare come to life.

Some appendix scars are very sexy.

Apparently in California, due to the drought conditions, lawn painting has become a booming business.

Rattling label names at me for what you are wearing is the easiest way for me to get bored.

I am sure it is interesting.

This move to California is going to make me have a mental, emotional, and financial breakdown.

It surprises me that they still make flip phones.

I hardly think a 22 story building that you can barely see from the highway can be considered an "iconic" part of the Atlanta skyline.

Do you really want a president who has over 10 billion dollars in assets, but can't find a decent toupee?

I would love to show all these fresh out of college straight to law school boys how to dress properly at a law firm. They all look like they are heading to an afternoon kegger.

LOL.

I was looking at some FB pictures from a guy who I used to be best friends with a long time ago. I can remember a time when it would be unthinkable that I wouldn't call him 10 times a day, or not see him that day. But with careers, lovers, moves, and whatnot, we found ourselves drifting apart, finally landing in place where it feels like we are mere acquaintances. There is a sadness there, but also a realization that this is just life. You can't look back with regret on anything. It brought to mind a quote from the movie adaptation of Paul Bowles' brilliant novel The Sheltering Sky. I have no idea if this is in the book (I don't recall it being in it), however, it feels very Bowles-ian:

"Because we don't know when we will die, we get to think of life as an inexhaustible well, yet everything happens only a certain number of times, and a very small number, really. How many more times will you remember a certain afternoon of your childhood, some afternoon that's so deeply a part of your being that you can't even conceive of your life without it? Perhaps four or five times more, perhaps not even that. How many more times will you watch the full moon rise? Perhaps twenty. And yet it all seems limitless."

Your cute for a lifetime.

Lyrics Rattling Around My Brain

"I had a dream, that when I woke up you were finally there.
And I believed all the hours turned to minutes, it's not fair.
When I turned to look at where you should've been I started drifting.
I tried to stare into your eyes and realized that there was something missing.

And if I stayed, I couldn't help but lie awake.
'Cuz it's not you, it's just a dream, it's only fake,
I just gotta leave. I gotta leave.

Turn the key, I try, I try to drive away into the night,
Try to keep, I try to keep between the lines and out of sight
And when I looked the side you should've been I started drifting.
I tried to stare into your eyes and realized that there was something missing.

And if I stayed, I couldn't help but lie awake.
'Cuz it's not you, it's just a dream, it's only fake.
I just gotta leave, I gotta leave.

I gotta get out! I gotta get out.
I gotta get out! I gotta get out.

When I turned to look at where you should've been, I started drifting.
I tried to stare into your eyes and realized that there was something...

And If I stayed, I couldn't help but lie awake.
'Coz it's not you, it's just a dream, it's only fake!
Still if I changed, everything would be the same.
I can't take no more! I dont know why I'm fighting for!
I just got to leave! I got to leave.

I had a dream, and when I woke up you were finally there,
when I woke up you were finally there,
when I woke up you were finally there."
