Overpowered

While I am working on my list of favorite tracks from the 1990s, I am continuing my short series of posts about some of my favorite videos. Next up is the brilliant, and incomparable Roisin Murphy and the video for the title track to her album Overpowered.

How many times in our lives have we secretly been devastated and no one knew? The seconds, the minutes, the hours, the days go by and we function in the world, barely betraying how, deep inside, we are crushed and can barely make it. And yet, we go on. This video perfectly encapsulates that feeling.

In the video Roisin does seemingly banal things; takes the bus home after a performance, eats some take out, finishes her laundry, and brushes her teeth. All the while wearing the most outlandish costume imaginable. Her mind so preoccupied with her innermost feelings and thoughts, she forgets about the clothes, gets into bed and pulls the covers up.

"When I think that I'm over you
I'm overpowered"
