20th Anniversary: Radiohead - The Bends
Although "Creep" was a killer single, Radiohead's debut album Pablo Honey, from which the single came from, was certainly not. I remember the day I walked into a local CD store and saw Radiohead's sophomore record The Bends in one of the listening stations and chuckled to myself thinking "this is going to be one of those bargain bid CDs in a matter of weeks." Out of curiosity, however, I decided to give it a listen, and from the opening sci-fi strands of "Planet Telex," I knew I was hearing a band come into its own. There was a sense of drama with each track that was missing before. Although the band would unleash far more important and groundbreaking works, The Bends will always be that record of theirs that just hits all the right notes with me. Happy 20th Anniversary to a brilliant album.
