Mandy, Indiana - "Magazine"

URGH is the forthcoming album from the English-French noise rock band Mandy, Indiana. The lead single, "Magazine," is a raw and powerful outpouring of vocalist Valentine Caulfield's anger and frustration after experiencing sexual violence and receiving no justice.

Oneohtrix Point Never - "Cherry Blue"

Lola Young - "Penny Out Of Nothing"

Wishing a speedy recovery to Lola Young, who recently cancelled all her upcoming live shows in order to tend to her mental health. Her latest album, I'm Only F**king Myself, is chock full of bangers. "Penny Out Of Nothing" highlights her powerful vocal range. 

Purity Ring - "glacier ::in memory of rs::"

Purity Ring's latest self-titled record ends beautifully with a touching tribute to the late, great Ryuichi Sakamoto, which samples music from his soundtrack to the David Bowie-starring film, Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence.

 

Jamie xx - "Dream Night"

Stunningly gorgeous trance/house track from Jamie xx, featuring a wistfully melancholic sample of Terry Callier's folk track "Dancing Girl." 

Blood Orange ft. Caroline Polachek, Lorde, & Mustafa) - "Mind Loaded"

Spellbinding and ghostly track from the upcoming Blood Orange album, Essex Honey. 

Nine Inch Nails - "As Alive As You Need Me To Be"

From the soundtrack to TRON: Aries, Nine Inch Nails shares the throbbing dance cut "As Alive As You Need Me To Be."

 

Wolf Alice - "The Sofa"

Excellent new single from Wolf Alice's upcoming record The Clearing. It's a sweeping ballad with lush strings and vocalist Ellie Rowsell's soaring voice.

Princess Nokia - "Drop Dead Gorgeous"

 

Each year, I hunt for my jam of the summer, and at long last, I have found it. Princess Nokia's "Drop Dead Gorgeous" is a mischievous ode to girlhood, with racy lyrics, pounding EDM beats, and swirling electronics. 

Saint Etienne - "Glad"

Saint Etienne is set to release their final record soon, titled International. The first single "Glad," is produced with Tom Rowlands of The Chemical Brothers and features Doves guitarist Jimi Goodwin. If this is any indication of the quality of the final album, we're in for something special.

Wolf Alice - "Bloom Baby Bloom"

Wolf Alice returns with their latest record The Clearing, with singer Ellie Rowsell channeling her inner Kate Bush and Tori Amos on the rousing, piano-led track "Bloom Baby Bloom." I am excited to hear the rest of the record. 

Pictureplane - "Heaven Is A State Of Mind"

Pictureplane creates a super catchy Depeche Mode-inspired goth-synthpop dance floor filler with "Heaven Is A State Of Mind." 

Erika de Casier - "Two Thieves"

Yesterday, Danish musician Erika de Casier surprise-released her new album Lifetime. It's a beautiful collection of downtempo/trip-hop tracks. I'm drawn to the sleek, breezy song "Two Thieves" with its crisp drum programming, deep bass, and subtle electronics.

Orchid Mantis - "Asleep On A Greyhound"

"Asleep On A Greyhound," a ghostly instrumental track from Atlanta band Orchid Mantis, is the perfect mixture of early 4AD atmosphere and Low-like slowcore.

Maria Somerville - "Garden"

Maria Somerville's excellent new record Luster is an exquisite collection of goth-ambient dreampop. "Garden" leans into a Cocteau Twins-like dream world of soft drum machines, aquatic bass, and washes of ethereal synths. 

These New Puritans - "A Season In Hell"

Experimental art rockers These New Puritans will release their latest album Crooked Wing next month. It was produced by Bark Psychosis' Graham Sutton. "A Season In Hell" builds on militaristic drums, organs, and industrial clattering.

Model/Actriz - "Audience"

Model/Actriz' sophomore record Pirouette is out today, and it's a brilliant continuation of their intense sound. "Audience" throbs and pulses with barely contained menace.

DjRUM - "Out of Dust"

From DjRUM's mesmerizing new record Under Tangled Silence, "Out of Dust" is the atmospheric penultimate track. It focuses on ambient washes of electronics over laser-precise, complex drum programming.

Cut Copy - "Solid"

A welcome return from Cut Copy with the dreamy new synthrock track "Solid." It's their first new music since their 2020 record Freeze, Melt.

Tunde Adebimpe - "Somebody New"

 TV on the Radio lead singer Tunde Adebimpe's debut solo album, Three Black Boltz, is a solid collection of synthpop and alt-rock tracks. "Somebody New" is a throbbing, exuberant dance floor banger.

HTRK - "Swimming Pool"

Australian duo HTRK, Jonnine Standish and Nigel Lang, take us on a noir-tinged, trip-hop journey on the atmospheric single "Swimming Pool."

Steve Queralt ft. Emma Anderson - "Lonely Town"

In June, Steve Queralt, bassist for shoegaze legends Ride, will release his debut solo record, Swallow. For the first single,  "Lonely Town," he pairs up with former Lush member Emma Anderson, who adds her ethereal vocals over a driving, Joy Division-esque groove.

Barker - "The Remembering Self"

Stochastic Drift is the latest ambient techno opus from Berlin-based producer Barker.  "The Remembering Self" is a lush, enveloping track that soothes the soul.

Deafheaven - "Body Behavior"

After taking a slight detour into melodic shoegaze territory, Deafheaven returns to their path of intense, engaging post-metal on their new record, Lonely People With Power. "Body Behavior" is an excellent return to form, ratcheting up the intensity while still allowing for moments of exquisite beauty.

Skrillex ft. Boys Noize and Dylan Brady - "ZEET NOISE"

From Skrillex's surprise new release, Fuck You Skrillex You Think Ur Andy Warhol But Ur Not !!<3, "ZEET NOISE" is a dense, hyperkinetic banger. 

UNIVERSITY - "Curwen"

Rowdy UK punks UNIVERSITY will soon release their debut record, McCartney, It'll Be Ok. While we await its arrival, we can bask in the controlled chaos of the single "Curwen."  This is a band to pay attention to.

Eartheater ft. Shygirl - "Dolphin"

Experimental popstar Eartheater teams up with Shygirl for this dark, ethereal track "Dolphin." 

Miki Berenyi Trio - "Manu"

Miki Berenyi Trio's debut album, Tripla, is out now and stands tall with any of Miki's Lush albums. I am drawn to the dubby, dream-pop stylings of "Manu."

Sugababes - "Jungle"

Sugababes are back with the saucy, pulsating single "Jungle." 

Ghost Mountain - "October Country"

A witch house revival is taking place, and I, for one, am here for it.  Ghost Mountain, part of the Northern California rap collective Haunted Mound, has released a mixtape reveling in the genre's tropes: murky, tinny drum machines, blasted and reverbed synths, and masked vocals. The title track, "October Country," is a prime example.

The Horrors - "The Feeling Is Gone"

The Horrors' sixth album, Night Life, moves away from the guitar-heavy tracks of the past and into the dark, synth-driven world of Sisters of Mercy's Floodland. "The Feeling Is Gone" features Arctic-cold synths, foggy drum machines, and Faris Badwan's goth prince baritone.

No Body ft. Aydo Abay - "Fear of the Golden Hour"

German post-punk/synthpop act Nobody teams up with Aydo Abay for the collaborative record Loves You. My favorite track is the haunting, synth-wash-drenched "Fear of the Golden Hour."

Factory Floor - "Between You"

Recorded with Stephen Morris of New Order, "Between You," the newest single from London's Factory Floor, is a slamming, euphoric banger. Makes me want to hit the dancefloor. 

Bob Mould - "Neanderthal"

From his fantastic new record Here We Go Crazy, "Neanderthal" is a blistering rager.

Sally Shapiro - "The Other Days"

Swedish duo Sally Shapiro returns with a new album, Ready to Live a Lie, set for release in May. The first single is the delightfully melancholy "The Other Days," featuring their trademark lush synths and aching vocals.

Lady Gaga ft. Gesaffelstein) - "Killah"

Mayhem is a return to form for Lady Gaga, leaning more into weird artpop, which is always her sweet spot. "Killah," a collaboration with Gesaffelstein, marries Depeche Mode beats with David Bowie/Prince swagger.

Marie Davidson - “Y.A.A.M.’

Montreal musician Marie Davidson owns your ass on the hot electro track “Y.A.A.M.”

 

which is found on her new album City of Clowns. 

Soft Blue Shimmer - "Soonby"

Shoegaze/dream-pop act Soft Blue Shimmer revels in Chapterhouse-like dance beats and swirling guitars on the track "Soonby." You can listen to it on their latest record, They Will Leave Us With Nothing.

 

YHWH Nailgun - "Animal Death Already Breathing"

From New York experimental rockers YHWH Nailgun's upcoming record 45 Pounds, "Animal Death Already Breathing" is a lurching, tribal collusion of pounding drums and moaning electronics.

Bdrmm - "Snares"

UK shoegaze/dream pop act Bdrmm's latest record Microtonic moves more electronically, expanding their already intriguing sound. "Snares" is a rush of "Idioteque" hyper-percussion and undulating waves of synths.

Andy Bell - "apple green ufo"

This week, Ride's Andy Bell released his third solo album, Pinball Wanderer. He locks into a Stone Roses-like groove on the hypnotic track "apple green ufo."

Model/Actriz - "Cinderella"

My favorite new band Model/Actriz announced the release of their sophomore album Pirouette, set for release in May. The first single is the quietly menacing "Cinderella." 

Canty - "St Marks"

London musician Canty's vocals may not be the most intelligible, marble-mouthed might be a good descriptor, however, when it's this evocative, it doesn't quite matter. You feel what he is singing, even if you don't know what it is about. The single "St Marks" can be found on his mixtape Dim Binge.

Skeleten - "Mindreader"

Chilled out, blissful track. Get lost in it. 

Peter Murphy ft. Trent Reznor - "Swoon"

Electro-industrial collaboration between Peter Murphy and Trent Reznor. 

The Weeknd - "Open Hearts"

"Open Hearts," from The Weeknd's new record Hurry Up Tomorrow, is maximalist synthpop at its finest. 

Tunde Adebimpe - "Drop"

Tunde Adebimpe, lead singer of TV on the Radio, will release his first solo record in April, titled Thee Black Boltz. The second single from the record is called "Drop" and it's a lovely, shuffling track that highlights his expressive vocals.
