Militarie Gun ft. Manchester Orchestra - "My Friends Are Having A Hard Time"

Hardcore act Militarie Gun's fantastic record Life Under The Gun came out last year, and they follow it up with a companion EP, Life Under The Sun, which features reimagined versions of songs from the LP. My favorite of the new versions is the piano and synth reworking of "My Friends Are Having A  Hard Time" in which they are joined by Manchester Orchestra.

Squarepusher - "Wendorlan"

 

Squarepusher, aka Tom Jenkinson, returns to his vintage roots on the intricate, electro-freakout track "Wendorlan." The programming is punishing and unrelenting. It will feature on the upcoming album Dostrotime.

NewDad - "Nightmares"

Irish band NewDad's debut album MADRA just came out.  It was produced by Chris W Ryan and mixed by the legendary Alan Moulder. It's an album that blends shoegaze and grunge perfectly together, which is apparent in the single "Nightmares."

Shygirl (ft. Cosha) - "thicc"

Extremely fun club banger from Shygirl and Cosha, produced by Karma Kid and Sega Bodega.

Justice - "Generator"

French duo Justice is returning with Hyperdrama, their first album in 8 years. They released two songs today; one, a collaboration with Tame Impala called "One Night/All Night," and two, the industrial rave track "Generator" with a wonderful disco/spy movie strings breakdown in the middle. 

The KVB - "Labyrinths"

The first single off of post-punk duo The KVB's upcoming record Tremors is the track "Labyrinths" with its icy keyboards, wailing guitars, deep basslines, and ominous vocals. 

A.G. Cook - "Silver Thread Golden Needle"

Producer A.G. Cook unleashes this 10-minute electronic track that keeps shape-shifting as it goes but always remains whimsical and charming.  

Kim Gordon - "BYE BYE"

Former Sonic Youth bassist Kim Gordon's second solo album The Collective comes out in March. Our first taste of the record is the lurching, menacing "BYE BYE" with its sludgy trap beats and guitar squalls. 

Biig Piig - "Watch Me"

 

The new single from Biig Piig (aka Jess Smyth) is the throbbing, buzz-synthy track "Watch Me."

Sprints - "Shaking Their Hands"

Dublin post-punk act Sprints' album Letter to Self is killer. "Shaking Their Hands" is a barn-burning guitar workout.

Glaring - "Shame"

"Shame" is an ethereal, gothwave track from Glaring's record Shoegaphex, which recalls the early years of the 4AD label. 

Honour - "Giz'aard ($uckets)"

From Chicago producer Honour's album Àl​á​á​f​í​à, the arresting song "Giz'aard ($uckets)" reads like a lost track from Tricky's trip-hop opus Maxinquaye. Treated pianos, buzzing synths, and militaristic percussion swirl and cluster together. 

Jamie xx - "It's So Good"

Definitely lives up to its title. 

Acopia - "Eyes Shut"

Australian dream pop trio Acopia recently released their self-titled second album. "Eyes Shut" combines echoing guitar lines, subterranean bass, pounding drums, and ghostly vocals.

Naomi Sharon - "Definition of Love (Live)"

Naomi Sharon's album Obsidian was another record that was a stunner last year. She effortlessly works Sade-esque vibes on the emotional track "Definition of Love (Live)."
