DJ Seinfeld - "I Feel Better"

"I Feel Better" is a hauntingly beautiful track off DJ Seinfeld's killer new record Mirrors. Delicate piano chords and languid strings propel this song which is lifted by a very emotional vocal.  

Alessia Cara - "Apartment Song"

Alessia Cara returns with a solid new album called In The Meantime. "Apartment Song" is a delightful track that revels in the joys of being alone.  Alessia's voice is pillow-soft and floats over a loping beat and slinky bassline.

Animal Collective - "Sand That Moves"

Animal Collective has made their first film score; the soundtrack for the documentary Crestone. "Sand That Moves" is a lovely meditative track filled with gorgeous acoustic guitars and delicate percussion.  

Godford - "The Beast"

Enigmatic French producer Godford returns with a new single "The Beast" the pitch shifts vocal samples over crisp drum programming and haunting synths. 

Hatchie - "This Enchanted"

Harriette Pilbeam, the Australian musician who records under the name Hatchie, recently signed to Secretly Canadian and releases her first single for the label. "This Enchanted" goes technicolor/widescreen with her danceable dream pop. It's an exciting track.

Alan Fitzpatrick ft. Kele - "W.A.I.S.T.D."

DJ and producer Alan Fitzpatrick teams up with Bloc Party's Kele for this pounding, dance floor banger. It's a fantastic journey that swiftly runs through deep house, breakbeats, and even techno. It's certain to be a rager in any club.

F.S. Blumm & Nils Frahm - "Desert Mule"

F.S. Blumm and Nils Frahm have teamed up for the collaborative album 2X1=4. The first single is "Desert Mule," a languorous instrumental with dub-inflected bass, lonely strings, and delicate guitar lines. The track gets more insistent as it gathers speed when the drums kick in about the halfway mark, 

Lil Nas X ft. Miley Cyrus - "Am I Dreaming"

This gorgeous duet between Lil Nas X and Miley Cyrus is a fitting closer for his pretty fantastic debut album MONTERO. He shows a lot of range on the record. Excited to see how his career plays out. 

Anabel Englund & Dombresky - "Boogie All Night"

Southern California-born singer Anabel Englund teams up with Dombresky for the awesome dance track "Boogie All Night."  It's a fun, shimmery track that fans of Dua Lipa or Kylie will love. It's taken from her album Messing With Magic (Deluxxe Edition), which is a really great dance record.

Radiohead - "If You Say The Word"

From the upcoming compilation KID A MNESIA, a collection of tracks that didn't make it onto Kid A or Amnesiac, "If You Say The Word" is a lovely, melancholy song that meanders in the most amazing way.

Caroline Loveglow - "Patience Etc."

Caroline Loveglow's debut single is a luscious slice of dream-pop with swells of synths wrapping around her delicate vocals.

Pictureplane - "The Magician"

Off Pictureplane's solid new record Dopamine, "The Magician" gathers mountainous drums, a sinister bass line, and haunting washes of synths to create a downtempo beauty.

Sleigh Bells - "Knowing"

I never thought I would say that Sleigh Bells has a better album than their debut Treats, but I am pretty darn confident that Texis is starting to make me rethink that. "Knowing" is more synth-focused, but still with Sleigh Bells' way with sing-song/chanted lyrics. Throw in intricate drum programming and more atmospheric guitar, and you have Sleigh Bells 2.0. Check out the whole record; it is definitely in my top ten this year.

Real Lies - "Late Arcades"

 

From their upcoming sophomore album, Lad Ash comes the sublime and haunting single "Late Arcades." It is about trying to avoid your troubles with a night of debauchery, yet after the pills and booze fade away, there you are again. It's a wondrous song, both longing and sad. 

Low - "White Horses"

After the sonic experimentation on their last record Double Negative, Low returns with HEY WHAT which drives further down that road. "White Horses" uses bursts of guitar abstraction as a backdrop to Alan Sparhawk and Mimi Parker's peerless harmonies. 

La Roux - "Damaged Goods (Gang of Four Cover)"

From the tribute album to the late great Andy Gill of Gang of Four, La Roux covers the classic track "Damaged Goods" and gives it a tropical/reggae vibe. 

The Black Dog - "Clogs and Segs"

"Clogs and Segs" starts out like it is going to be a lovely, minimal ambient track, filled with twinkly synths. It slowly builds into something massive, with a climax that almost overwhelms you with its profundity. 

 

Turnstile - "UNDERWATER BOI"

I like every song on post-hardcore band Turnstile's new album GLOW-ON, so it was nearly impossible to pick just one to post. I have a fondness for "UNDERWATER BOI" because it starts out very jaunty and cheeky, but builds to quite a roar. I enjoy the push and pull of both sides of the song. 

Charli XCX - "Good Ones"

According to Charli XCX, her new single "Good Ones' is the start of a new chapter in her life where she "embraces all that my life has to offer in today’s world – fame, glamour, inner demons and global hits." The video definitely shows her embracing all of that and more. The song itself is a pop banger about always going back to toxic relationships. 

Chvrches - "Violent Delights"

Chvrches are back on top of their game with their brilliant new record Screen Violence. The biggest highlight is the towering "Violent Delights," with its soaring synths, killer chorus, and skittering percussion that the band says is an homage to The Prodigy. This is definitely one of their best songs ever.  

Halsey - "Girl Is A Gun"

Produced by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, Halsey's new record If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power is a killer alt-pop record that draws on the strengths of all parties involved. I really love the hyperkinetic track "Girl Is A Gun" with its intense drum programming and Halsey's strong vocals.
