Jam of the Day: Denitia - "Never Told You"
I am loving how trip-hop is making a subtle comeback these days. Although her output is generally more R&B-leaning, singer/producer Denitia lets out some darkly gorgeous Tricky/Martina Topley-Bird vibes on this smokey track.

Jam of the Day: Goth Babe - "Sunnnn"
This song sounds like the end of summer, when the days are getting shorter and the temperature starts to gather a chill.

Jam of the Day: altopalo - "(Head In A) Cloche"
From their intriguing album frozenthere, "(Head In A) Cloche" is a stunningly intricate song that haunts the space between Radiohead's more somber moments and James Blake's sonic explorations.

Jam of the Day: Black Belt Eagle Scout - "Sam, A Dream"
The haunting closing track to Black Belt Eagle Scout's lovely record Mother of My Children. I love how it goes from a quiet, subtle beginning, with a chiming guitar riff, and blossoms into an intricate guitar rave up at the end.

Jam of the Day: Aphex Twin - "pthex"
Richard D. James, a.k.a. Aphex Twin, shows no sign of slowing down in his second period of recording. His Collapse EP is some of his best work, including the final track "pthex" that displays all facets of his work, being simultaneously whimsical, warm, and slightly off-kilter.

Jam of the Day: Low - "Always Trying to Work it Out"
"Always Trying to Work it Out" is the haunting, mesmerizing centerpiece to Low's new album, the masterful and enigmatic song cycle Double Negative. They have completely changed their sound and have produced some of the most challenging and meaningful music of their storied career.

Jam of the Day: Laurel - "All Star"
While her voice has echoes of Florence and the Machine, Laurel commands her own presence with "All Star" from her debut album Dogviolet. She definitely has Florence's range, but her voice has a lovely gravelly texture to it, that gives her songs a rawness that is refreshing in this day and age.

Jam of the Day: Low - "Dancing and Blood"
On Low's 13th studio album Double Negative, the band completely reinvents their sound, moving from the slowcore of their past into hypnotic electronic excursions. "Dancing and Blood" is a dreamlike track that pulls you in slowly.

Jam of the Day: The Twilight Sad - "Videograms"
Just because my blog is named after a Twilight Sad song doesn't mean I automatically like everything they do. However, in this case, I really, really like this epic track from their upcoming fifth record It Won/t Be Like This All The Time. After constantly touring and working with Robert Smith of The Cure has given the band a new understanding and appreciation of drama and scope.

Jam of the Day: RÜFÜS DU SOL - "Lost In My Mind"
Photo: Le Fawnhawk
Intense and dark deep club house track from RÜFÜS DU SOL's upcoming record Solace. Based on this, and "No Place" and "Underwater," this album is my most anticipated fall release.

Jam of the Day: Yves Tumor ft. James K - "Licking an Orchid"
Underneath the gorgeous trip-hop layers that are Yves Tumor's mesmerizing track "Licking an Orchid lies a dark undercurrent. Lyrics like "Some call it pain/Some call it torture/Lately I enjoy it/Baby, please come home" detail a dark, masochistic relationship. There is always beauty in pain, and Yves Tumor paints a vivid canvas to show us.

Jam of the Day: Cubicolor - "Boxed Out"
Haunting and dramatic electronic track from Dutch trio Cubicolor. Emotional vocals take the lead over pulsating beats and burbling synths.
