Jam of the Day: Yung Gud - "The Power"

From his brilliant 4-track EP entitled Beautiful, Wonderful, Sad Boy producer/DJ Micke Berlander, AKA Yung Gud, releases this amazingly nuanced track. At only 18 years old, this producer has some serious chops along the lines of Clams Casino. Expect big things from this guy.

Jam of the Day: Zola Blood - "Open Arms"

Coming across like the bastard child of Foals and the electronic side of Radiohead, London quartet Zola Blood know their way expertly around some evocative, down-tempo electronica.

Jam of the Day: Desperate Journalist - "Control"

Imagine if Siouxie Sioux fronted The Smiths.

Videos of the Week

Very rough week here that I am glad is almost done with. Here are the videos that brought me back to reality:

NSFW clip from Arca for the title track to his brilliant debut record.

Dizzee Rascal as a ninja master in this entertaining clip.

Intense performance clip from Desperate Journalist.

This clip from Belle and Sebastian tells a story in three chapters, with the viewer getting more of the story each time.

Blonde Redhead's lovely track gets a video showing a rainy day in Manhattan.

Surreal clip for this delicate track from Angel Olsen.

Evocative clip from Iceage that is slightly NSFW.

Haunting video from post-hardcore act Pianos Become Teeth.

Jam of the Day: Major Lazer ft. Ariana Grande - "All My Love"

From the Lorde curated soundtrack for Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1, this collaboration between Major Lazer and Ariana Grande is a kick-ass track.

Non-Sequiturs

All that is missing is some fur.

Love a furry forearm.

Daddy belly.

Amazing body.

Grrrr.

Cutie.

Furry beast.

Adorable.

Enjoying the view.

UNF.

Dorky cute.

Woof.

Love his build.

Ginger sexiness.

Stunning.

I can't stop staring at the gorgeous belly.

Damn.

Silver fox.

Woof daddy.

Big muscle bear.

Such a cutie bear.

Yes please.

I really wish people would use Google more often.

Why do people who want monogamous relationships get in such a tizzy about men in open relationships? Worry about yourself.

I am not ready for cold weather yet.

The document review software we are using is so useless and slow. It is dial-up era Internet slow.

Pretty much.

People are strange.

I am really looking forward to seeing FKA twigs in a couple of weeks.  I am hoping to get my concert mojo back,

There is nothing like a good steak.

You asked me to give you times when I was free to hang out when you are in town, I tell you when I am free, then you never get back to me. Don't expect me to go out of my way for you in the future.

Paul Bettany for the win.

Aside from a watch and/or wedding band, I really can't abide jewelry on a man.

I've basically given up on American Horror Story.

Charles Manson can be legally married and yet I can.'t There is something completely fucked up about that sentence.

Nothing like having to spend hours of my time getting my credit report fixed due to a bank error.

Ha!

What is up with everyone using Gofundme.com for really inappropriate things?

Apparently, there is a Ride reunion scheduled for next year. Aside from their first two albums, the rest of their output was spotty at best. I can't say I have a dying need to see them again.

I love my cats, but this is one of those trying weeks that I just want to ship them off to Siberia.

Someone attempted to defraud my bank account by sending me a fake email from my bank saying my account had been compromised and I need to fill out their "authentication" form to get my account reopened. It would have helped them if they had sent the email to the correct email associated with the account, and had not littered the email with several typos. Nice try though.

Love it!

A friend asked me to explain why I find men's stomachs attractive (it is my one fetish). How can anyone explain a fetish or attraction?  It just is.

It's the friends that you can call at 4am that are the best kind.

I never truly comprehend people's aversion to universal health care. Why should this be a privilege and not a right? And how can you honestly call yourself a Christian if you are vehemently opposed to some form of universal health care?

I hate it when Andrew doesn't feel well. I just want to make him feel better.

It has to suck to date in the modern age.

I wish I had the opportunity to travel more when I was younger.

RIP Mike Nichols.

No one comes in early on the floor I now work on. It is a little surreal to be here almost two hours before others show up.

Your cute for the day.

Lyrics Rattling Around My Brain

"Stuck in the shade
Where there’s no sunshine
I don’t wanna play
With them other kids in the sun.

Since you left me, babe,
It’s been a long way down
Yeah, you left me, babe
It’s been a long way down.

What you don’t know won’t hurt you, yeah
Ignorance is bliss
I’m a happy idiot
Waving at cars.
I’m gonna bang my head to the wall
‘Till I feel like nothing at all
I’m a happy idiot
To keep my mind off you.
Stuck in a daze and I’ve lost my mind
I don’t wanna stay
Where the blame’s all mine.

Since you left me, babe,
It’s been a long way down
Yeah, you left me, babe
It’s been a long way down.

So, I shut it off.
So, I shut it all off.
So, I shut it off.
So, I shut it all off.

It’s been a long way down.
It’s been a long way down.

What you don’t know won’t hurt you, yeah
Ignorance is bliss
I’m a happy idiot
Waving at cars.
I’m gonna bang my head to the wall
‘Till I feel like nothing at all
I’m a happy idiot
To keep my mind off you.
To keep my mind off you.
To keep my mind off you."

TV on the Radio
"Happy Idiot"

"Fist fights, long nights, come home late
Can’t sleep, I keep me awake
Flip through the lives on TV
I’ll say, for now, I’m happy

Love it when I’m play-pretending
When I can take bullets to the heart
Fucking up my happy ending
But I can take bullets to the heart

Breathe in balance and love, I was born on the scene
Now it runs in my blood, yeah, you know what I mean
When I’m dead and gone, will they sing about me?
Dead and gone, will they scream my name?
Scream my name

Wake up, guard up, and I’m bored
Night runs with guns, too hardcore
Don’t dare to care about someone
I’m dirt, I’m ice, is that wrong?

Love it when I’m play-pretending
When I can take bullets to the heart
Fucking up my happy ending
But I can take bullets to the heart

Breathe in balance and love, I was born on the scene
Now it runs in my blood, yeah, you know what I mean
When I’m dead and gone, will they sing about me?
Dead and gone, will they scream my name?"

Jam of the Day: Kiasmos - "Thrown"

I don't normally post tracks this old ("Thrown" was released in 2012) as my Jam of the Day, however, I only just discovered it, and it is one of the most gorgeous techno tracks I have heard in awhile. The synth-strings alone make you want to weep. Kiasmos is the duo of Ólafur Arnalds & Janus Rasmussen.

Jam of the Day: Sylas - "Hollow"

Enigmatic London duo Sylas have already won the approval of Brian Eno, and it is no wonder. "Hollow" is a breathtaking single; simultaneously abstract, frightening, beautiful, and haunting.

Jam of the Day: Little Boots - "Taste It"

Little Boots's track "Taste It" is a deadpan electro-pop track that is deliciously addictive. The video is quite bizarre.

Jam of the Day: Clark -"Winter Linn"

I love all the textures in this haunting track from Clark.

Videos of the Week

Cold front slams into Atlanta last night. Here are the videos this week that warmed my cold feet up:

Tongue in cheek video making fun of Taylor Swift's dating persona.

Gorgeous clip from Kindness and Robyn, featuring simple portraits of their families and friends. It is quite touching.

The band WATERS performs their song in a parking lot while frontman Van Pierszalowski wanders through LA's skeezy Pink Motel while weird things go on.

Hypnotic and strange clip from ambient artist Tim Woulfe.

Gorgeous animated clip from Field Report.

Amazing abstract clip for this haunting track from Clark.

Jam of the Day: Day Wave - "Nothing At All"

Jackson Phillips, formerly of Carousel, has broken out on his own as Day Wave. Here is his first single, the jangly and bouncy new-wave influenced cut "Nothing At All."

Non-Sequiturs

Leather Daddy.

Big Bull.

Perfect furry belly.

Yeah, I just stand around holding weights, looking hot and stuff.

So cute.

Yes.

Damn.

Love my stocky boys.

I wouldn't mind getting pulled over by him.

Love his fur.

So cute.

Grrrr.

Sexy fur.

Damn.

Woof.

Hey Daddy.

Gorgeous.

Lift it up.

UNF.

I would love to rub that belly.

Yum.

As far as influence goes in terms of music curating, John Peel was by far my biggest influence. His taste and selection in finding new bands and championing them was impeccable.

While I love going to see concerts, I really don't enjoy the whole process involved: finding parking, waiting on bands to come on, shitty people talking throughout the show, shitty sound, etc.

We went to see Interpol the other night. This was my third time seeing them, and it felt like they were a bit on auto-pilot. I still enjoyed the show though, and the set list was killer.

The band Hundred Waters opened for them, and my friend Niki couldn't stand them because the female singer was too "breathy." She was actually.

This cracked me up.

Gay circuit music definitely has its place, and if I have to choose, a Dave Aude remix doesn't seem to disappoint.

If you make a comment on a photo of me telling me to smile, I am going to delete your comment.
It was such a lovely weekend weather wise, and now the cold blast of arctic air descends upon us.

Bobsled uniforms are hot.

If you have topiary-like patterns for your hairstyle, I can pretty much guarantee you I am not going to be interested.

Exactly.

Are narcissists even aware they are narcissistic?

Speaking of, a friend of mine recently unfollowed a friend of his on FB because "he preaches a lazy and pointless doctrine which is to accept yourself blindly, that self improvement is unnecessary, that the only thing important in life is your own happiness." I'm not sure I would be able to handle this person either.

Perhaps this is heresy, but I prefer A Perfect Circle to Tool.

Why do they keep making sequels for horrible movies that no one cared about the first time, i.e., Horrible Bosses.

So true.

If you have messaged me on two different apps and I have not responded, I am pretty sure that I will still not respond if you message me on a third one.

If the only problems you have are First World Problems, I am not going to have much sympathy for you.

It still amazes me how many gay men have no clue about HIV; even worse, how many gay doctors I have met that have no clue.

Good lord, it seems half my friends are in Hawaii this week. I want to go!

LOL.

I hate when people ask you to do something that they could have easily done in the time it took for them to tell you.

People say the most random things to me on elevators.

Enough with the saying "Real men ________." Last time I checked, just because I didn't do _________, I am still a man.

It is impossible for me to not watch The Devil Wears Prada when it comes on TV.

Amen!

Celebrities spouting their opinions about controversial subjects is about as bad as politicians, who aren't scientists, spouting their opinions on science. STFU.

I detest people who are routinely late. It is inconsiderate and rude.

After five years with my law firm, I finally got business cards.

Your double cute for the day.

Lyrics Rattling Around My Brain

"I slept like a villain and woke up inside you
The years have all vanished and swallowed up the dark
Somebody had finished the book I was writing
The ending was wrong, just went back to the start

A carpet of women rippled with silence
They carving me with remainders from the fir
The lake where I swim in, I melted inside it
And sang to the limits, I've been there once before

Daughters will be sung
Daughters will be sung
Daughters will be sung
Daughters will be sung

We're not gonna make it
We're not gonna make it
We're not gonna make it
We won't make it in time."

We Were Evergreen
"Daughters"

"This place is set to break
It's just as safe for me outside tonight
And I want that
I face the storm's appetite
From the lighthouse

And I want that
I embrace the storm and the night
Whole

What do the waves have to say, now?
What do the waves have to say, now now
Slow now
I let the waves have their way
Now now
Slow
I let the waves have their day

And I want that

Here I've been living unloosened from sin
Upward and outward
Begin, begin

Here I've been loosened, unliving within
Inwardly urgent
I'm sinking again

The lighthouse."
