Jam of the Day: Yung Gud - "The Power"

From his brilliant 4-track EP entitled Beautiful, Wonderful, Sad Boy producer/DJ Micke Berlander, AKA Yung Gud, releases this amazingly nuanced track. At only 18 years old, this producer has some serious chops along the lines of Clams Casino. Expect big things from this guy.

Jam of the Day: Zola Blood - "Open Arms"

Coming across like the bastard child of Foals and the electronic side of Radiohead, London quartet Zola Blood know their way expertly around some evocative, down-tempo electronica.

Jam of the Day: Desperate Journalist - "Control"

Imagine if Siouxie Sioux fronted The Smiths.

Videos of the Week

Very rough week here that I am glad is almost done with. Here are the videos that brought me back to reality:

NSFW clip from Arca for the title track to his brilliant debut record.

Dizzee Rascal as a ninja master in this entertaining clip.

Intense performance clip from Desperate Journalist.

This clip from Belle and Sebastian tells a story in three chapters, with the viewer getting more of the story each time.

Blonde Redhead's lovely track gets a video showing a rainy day in Manhattan.

Surreal clip for this delicate track from Angel Olsen.

Evocative clip from Iceage that is slightly NSFW.

Haunting video from post-hardcore act Pianos Become Teeth.

Jam of the Day: Major Lazer ft. Ariana Grande - "All My Love"

From the Lorde curated soundtrack for Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1, this collaboration between Major Lazer and Ariana Grande is a kick-ass track.

Jam of the Day: Kiasmos - "Thrown"

I don't normally post tracks this old ("Thrown" was released in 2012) as my Jam of the Day, however, I only just discovered it, and it is one of the most gorgeous techno tracks I have heard in awhile. The synth-strings alone make you want to weep. Kiasmos is the duo of Ólafur Arnalds & Janus Rasmussen.

Jam of the Day: Sylas - "Hollow"

Enigmatic London duo Sylas have already won the approval of Brian Eno, and it is no wonder. "Hollow" is a breathtaking single; simultaneously abstract, frightening, beautiful, and haunting.

Jam of the Day: Little Boots - "Taste It"

Little Boots's track "Taste It" is a deadpan electro-pop track that is deliciously addictive. The video is quite bizarre.

Jam of the Day: Clark -"Winter Linn"

I love all the textures in this haunting track from Clark.

Videos of the Week

Cold front slams into Atlanta last night. Here are the videos this week that warmed my cold feet up:

Tongue in cheek video making fun of Taylor Swift's dating persona.

Gorgeous clip from Kindness and Robyn, featuring simple portraits of their families and friends. It is quite touching.

The band WATERS performs their song in a parking lot while frontman Van Pierszalowski wanders through LA's skeezy Pink Motel while weird things go on.

Hypnotic and strange clip from ambient artist Tim Woulfe.

Gorgeous animated clip from Field Report.

Amazing abstract clip for this haunting track from Clark.

Jam of the Day: Day Wave - "Nothing At All"

Jackson Phillips, formerly of Carousel, has broken out on his own as Day Wave. Here is his first single, the jangly and bouncy new-wave influenced cut "Nothing At All."

Video: David Bowie - "Sue (Or A Season In Crime)"

Arty, black and white clip for this new track off David Bowie's upcoming career-spanning anthology Nothing Has Changed.

Video: Calvin Harris ft. Ellie Goulding - "Outside"

Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding deal with imploding relationships in this clip for their track "Outside," off of Harris' latest record Motion.

Jam of the Day: Knife Party - "Boss Mode"

Sneaky track from Knife Party starts out as your usual electro banger, builds up to a huge release, then pulls the rug out by throwing down a trap beat. Pretty slick and sick.

Jam of the Day: We Were Evergreen - "Daughters"

Infectious electronic pop from French trio We Were Evergreen. I love the Michel Gondry-esque video for the song as well.

Monday, November 10, 2014

Jam of the Day: Man Without Country ft. White Sea - "Law of Motion"

More gorgeous synthpop from the British duo, featuring help from White Sea. This track is the first listen from their upcoming record Maximum Entropy.

Jam of the Day: Lorde - "Yellow Flicker Beat"

I can't stop playing this song.

Videos of the Week

It's Friday, and here are the videos that saddled up for the week:

Lorde works her witchy hands dance magic in this clip for her song on the Hunger Games soundtrack.

Simple, yet effective black and white clip for up and coming London singer Billie Black.

Gorgeously shot clip for Hundred Waters.

Metronomy get back to nature in this interesting clip.

Wild Beasts are exposed to different elements and these are their real reactions in this quasi-science experiment cum music video.

Jam of the Day: Flume ft. Moon Holiday - "Insane (L D R U Remix)"

Although I am not a huge fan of the original track from Flume, I love this languid synthed up remix from L D R U.

Video: Lorde - "Yellow Flicker Beat"

From her Hunger Games curated soundtrack, Lorde releases this video for her track "Yellow Flicker Beat," which finds her performing the track in a variety of different locations utilizing her idiosyncratic dance moves.

Jam of the Day: Billie Black - "I Waited For You"

Nineteen year old London singer Billie Black's voice straddles the line between jazz, R&B, and pop and belies her young age. She puts that voice up against some Jame Blake-ian UK bass sounds in this intoxicating single. Her first release EP 000100 is out now.
