Non Sequiturs

Last night, Kurt and I went to see Crystal Castles and Bear In Heaven at the Masquerade and it was a bit of a disappointing show. Again, it was attended by a ridiculous amount of annoying people. They were either young kids dressed up in feathered headbands and glowsticks, high on whatever is the drug of choice these days, or hipster douchebags who are annoying in and of themselves. Bear In Heaven came on around 8:30 which is a far cry from when I was attending shows back in the day where bands wouldn't come on until well after 10pm. I love their last cd, but the show was slightly lackluster. One, the sound was atrocious, and the singers vocals were so low you couldn't hear them. Finally, after about three songs they pumped it up, but by then it was a little too late. Second, the pacing of the set was a bit lethargic. I was expecting a more upbeat show and it sort of plodded along without much energy. Third, they only played a short, 45 minute set. This wouldn't have been a big deal had Crystal Castles come on shortly thereafter. Instead we had to wait around for over an hour and a half. By then we were just irritated. When they finally came on, the sound was ridiculously loud, to the point I wished I had brought ear plugs. Not to mention that the light show was so intense that it was likely to cause epileptic seizures. Oddly, the loud, abrasive songs came across better than their more melodic songs. Unfortunately, while Alice Adams is a striking front woman, she cannot sing. We stayed about 45 minutes until I and my headache could handle it no longer. I really hate that it wasn't a better show.

Lyrics Rattling Around My Head

"The lack of light, hollow sea,
Poison beaches, limousines
Toothless dentists, cops that kill...

My Baby's got the lonesome lows,
Don't quite go away overnight;
Dr. Blind just prescribe the blue ones.
If the the dizzying highs don't subside overnight,
Dr. Blind, just prescribe the red ones."

Emily Haines and the Soft Skeleton
"Doctor Blind"

"I need the sunlight to keep me above
These moderations
I always hoped or
Did all this work for
Some peace of mind
And just because

On this side
You wanna see that
There's no change
And somewhere to stay

Well if you're right
I'll put my keys back
There's no change
And no hand to play"

"Try It On"

"It's not easy to fall in love
But if you're lucky you just might find someone
So don't let it get you down
Cause in the end, you're only one

I can't stand to see you this way
It's gonna be alright

It's not easy to let it all go
But once in a while it's good for your soul
So don't let it get you down
Cause in the end, you're on your own

I can't stand to see you this way
It's gonna be alright"
