Videos of the Week

It's Friday the 13th! Enjoy the latest round-up of videos that are making my mouth water.

Matthew Dear is best known as a microhouse producer, but lately he has been leaning more towards a pop sound. His latest cd Black City borrows heavily from old-school Prince and 80s synthpop. I haven't gotten my head around the cd yet, but think it is going to be a year-end favorite.

Less controversial than her redhead shooting video for "Born Free," the latest is a rather generic looking video for the single "XXXO." Aside from the dull video, the song is one of my favorites this years.

Ben Quayle, son of moron Dan Quayle, is running for Congress in Arizona and as you can see from the clip the apple has not fallen far from the tree. This is one of his political ads that someone "tweaked." Wait for the end ;)

The latest video from Grinderman is completely NSFW, featuring male and female nudity, violence, gore, and Nick Cave in a gladiator uniform shooting lasers out of his ass. Makes absolutely no sense, but is definitely eye catching.

It has been almost 10 years since Richard James put out any music under his Aphex Twin moniker. I was a bit shocked about that. This is from his last release Drukqs, which seemed like a harddrive dump of material. With better editing, it would have been a classic. "54 Cymru Beats" is an excellent example of drill n' bass.

Skream is one of the originators of dubstep and has finally released his excellent second cd Outside The Box. First single, "Listenin' To The Records On My Wall" is a more pop leaning song, with this very trippy, amazing video. Possibly NSFW due to some female boobies.

If I am ever having a stressful day, I only need to put on Digable Planets to chill me out.

Pop-punk pranksters Clinic have a new cd coming out and this is the first single and video. It is disarmingly mellow and chilled out for them, so I am not sure if it is a shaggy dog single that is not indicative of the cd as a whole. We shall see.

Never Let Me Go was a brilliant novel from Japanese/British author Kasuo Ishiguro and has finally been made into a film directed by former video director Mark Romanek. Really looking forward to seeing it.
